JOBS
/ ECONOMY
Mark believes the best way to stimulate the
economy is to support and encourage small business. As a delegate, he
will support pro-business policies to enable job providing businesses to
stay and create more jobs. These policies include lowering the taxes on
businesses, protecting the union secret ballot, and fighting burdensome
regulations that pose roadblocks to starting a small business.
EDUCATION
Virginia has some of the best secondary and
upper level education institutions in the country. As a Delegate, he
will fight to enroll more in-state students at our state universities.
Many Fairfax County students with near-perfect academic records are
turned away by our best schools in favor of students from
out-of-state.
As a Delegate, Mark will also
fight to keep Fairfax County Schools among the best in the country. This
starts with ensuring that we attract and retain top quality teachers.
Recently, Fairfax County teachers have dropped from the highest paid in
the region to the sixth highest paid. Our Fairfax teachers are leaving
Fairfax County and moving to areas where the pay is better and the cost
of living is more manageable. Mark will make teacher pay a priority and
work to reverse this trend.
TRANSPORTATION
Richmond must start providing real
transportation relief for Fairfax County, and as a Delegate, Mark will
take the lead in providing transportation leadership. This starts with
leading the effort to complete Dulles Rail and by ensuring the Reston
and Herndon communities thrive as a result.
Mark will also support efforts
to make sure Fairfax County is getting its fair share of transportation
funding. For years, Fairfax taxpayers have sent millions to Richmond and
not received traffic relief in return. It is time we reverse that so
that Fairfax taxpayers are getting their fair share of transportation
tax dollars.
ENERGY INDEPENDENCE AND THE ENVIRONMENT
Mark has always believed we all have a
responsibility to be good stewards of our natural resources. We must
preserve our waters and open spaces through the use of efficient
technology and energy conservation incentives. We must consider all
sources of energy in the commonwealth, and invest in those that offer
the most environmentally and economically effective results and benefits
for all Virginians.
